Fruits of The Spirit, Southampton City Art Gallery
Join artist Lizzie Jones and Assistant Curator of Art Jemma Craig to celebrate the ‘Fruits of the Spirit’ project. Gentleness as nonviolence will be explored through some ideas, writings, and paintings created in response. The event will be the first opportunity for the artist to share these responsive and newly created works, which will contain performative elements and be supported by the reading of new texts by teacher, thinker, and writer Frank Campbell. The event is free, but spaces are limited. Refreshments will be provided from 3pm, and the event will start at 3.30pm. Please RSVP to art.gallery@southampton.gov.uk Fruits of the Spirit: Art from the Heart (5 Dec 2022 – 30 Apr 2023) is a nationwide project devised by the National Gallery. Nine participating regional partners selected works of art from their own collections to pair with National Gallery works in an online exhibition. Each pairing represents one of the ‘Fruits of the Spirit’ and Southampton City Art Gallery’s ‘fruit’ is Gentleness. An in-person trail can also be followed at the National Gallery, London.
